Acupuncture with Chinese Medicine

Your first visit includes the whole-body examination, review of your medical history and acupuncture treatment. Please read Patient Visit Guide on what to expect and how to prepare for your first visit. Your follow-up appointment will follow your treatment plan and include acupuncture and other therapeutic modalities of Chinese medicine such as liniments, plasters, herbal patches, dietary therapy, qi gong, moxibustion, gua sha, body or facial cupping, etc. depending on the condition treated.

Acupuncture for mental sharpness

This service is designed for optimizing mental acuity such as improving your memory, cognition, focus, and reflex speed as well as reducing anxiety and irritability. The initial session consists of a screening neurological exam and 30-min acupuncture session and the 6 follow-up sessions targeting specific brain areas identified on the initial screening exam as underperforming. At the conclusion of your 7th session, you will receive recommendations to sustain your optimal neurological function and further referrals in case of incidental findings. To achieve results, you need to do at least 1 session a week. Acupuncture works the best when done regularly at set frequency. 

Acupuncture for preventing illness

This treatment is designed to prevent winter illness by taking preventative measures in the summer. It consists of 3 Chinese medicine sessions that need to be scheduled for 3 nine-day periods after summer solstice. You can book the 1st appointment online and subsequent appointment in person. The treatment includes footbath, ear acupuncture and celestial moxa sticking therapy. 

Treatments are to be scheduled during the Dog Days of summer. For this year the periods are as follows:

1. Prep patch: July 8 - 15, 2023

2. The beginning (chufu): July 21 - 22, 2023

3. The middle (zhongfu): July 28 - Aug 5, 2023

4. Booster patch: Aug 11 -12, 2023

5. The end (mofu): Aug 18 - Aug 19, 2023.

Prep and Booster patches strengthen the effect of the treatment.

Acupuncture for neurological conditions

This service is specifically designed for patients with neurological conditions, especially post-stroke or traumatic head/brain injury who are interested in rehabilitation to improve their symptoms such as paralysis, spasticity, impaired sensation, etc. (see the complete list below). Your first visit includes the whole body examination including review of your medical history, acupuncture/electro-acupuncture and neuromuscular re-education treatment. Your follow-up appointment will follow your treatment plan and include acupuncture and specific guidance to your rehabilitation with Chinese medicine.

Acupuncture will not restore function that has been lost due to the disease or injury process. However, it may be able to modify activity in those systems that are still functioning to some extent. The mechanism involves local, segmental, extra-segmental and central regulatory effects.

Acumassage

This treatment involves a combination of a full body massage and acupuncture in time ratio 3:2. It is best for a specific musculoskeletal complaint of acute or chronic origin or for stress relief. It is especially helpful for conditions that failed to resolve with a single modality. A health history will be taken, and exam will help assess the root cause. Acupuncture is ideal for accessing deep muscle layers and release fascia.
